About Jim Bohen
Jim Bohen is a half-glass empty pessimist. He admits it. It might even be why he's
a writer. But, speculation aside, the facts are these: He was born and raised in St. Paul,
Minnesota, where he lives now with his wife, Bonnie. They have two married
children and a granddaughter, born in July, 2017.
An honors graduate in English literature from the (then) College of St. Thomas in St.
Paul, Jim worked for non-profits and a book publisher and was the lead singer in rock and
acoustic groups before turning to freelance writing and editing in 1993.
His poems have appeared in such journals as Conclave, the Minnesota Daily, Red Paint
Hill Poetry Journal and Third Wednesday. He's been shortlisted twice for the erbacce prize
(an international competition) and was a finalist for The Loft Literary Center's Mentor
Series. His first book, a poetry collection entitled I travel in rusting burned-out sedans, is
available from any of the links in the top row below (click on "books," then "poetry" for
the unsolicited press link).
A prolific songwriter and a very good singer, Jim's CD, Never Too Late, features 12 of
the hundreds of songs he's written. Those run the gamut from "unusual" a cappella pieces
to jazzy, with a heavy dose of blues and rock, his favorite genres. The songs on the CD can
be heard (and purchased) at the iTunes and cdbaby links below. The YouTube site features
a few performances by Jim (and guitarist Paul Storms).
